1) When Czar Nicholas I and his wife strolling in the ground of one of their places, they spotted what appeared to be the first snowdrop of the year. When the Tsarina expressed a wish that it should not be picked, her husband ordered a soldier to stand guard over the tiny flower.

Some fifty years later, the Czar’s great- grandson, Nicholas 2, was strolling in the same grounds when he spotted a lone sentry in the middle of a field. Puzzled by this, he made enquiries and found that the order of Nicholas I had been entered in the guard log book and sentries had been dutifully posted on the same spot for half a century.

2) The world’s rarest plant is a type of Silversword which is only known to grow in the crater of an extinct volcano on a Hawaiian island.
3) Productive Palms


In the island of the Seychelles, the inhabitants grow palms which produce huge, double coconuts which can weigh up to 18kg (40lb).

4) A seventeenth- century book seriously advised its readers to plant a lily in their gardens as it was an effective method of keeping ghosts away.

FYI…truffles are not plants. They are in the 3rd kingdom – fungi. Plants and animals are the other 2.
